Alamo Impact Breccia Limestone 377-378 million years old Full slice, 4.42 kg (9.74 lb) 15 x 12.5 x 1 inch 38 x 32 x 2.5 cm. This is a huge slab of Alamo Impact Breccia professionally cut and polished on one side. It is made mostly of limestone and some chert-like clasts, and contains stromatolites. Rugose coral, a few shell fragments, and fusulinids. I can't add much to the photos - it's a beautiful example of an impact breccia.

From what I have seen, this is among the largest and best Alamo Breccia specimens that has ever been offered. It is a museum-quality specimen. Was done by Marlin Cilz, of the Montana Meteorite Laboratory. The Alamo Breccia was first recognized as impact-related in the early 1990s. The breccia had previously been described as a reef-front depositional deposit, however, more detailed.

Work done by the Colorado School of Mines showed that this was inconsistent with its geologic setting. Later work found evidence of a positive iridium anomaly, shocked quartz, and lapili related to the impact.

The location of the source crater has not yet been found. My name is Jason Utas and I have been collecting and hunting for meteorites since 1998. My old account is here.
